The Passage to the Galapagos Islands

The Passage to the Galapagos Islands

February 14, 2024 Wednesday
Happy Valentines Day to my wonderful Captain!

The W-ARC fleet departed from Isla Contadora in fine style to begin the big hop to the Galapagos Islands (~ 850 nautical miles away).

The 850-nautical-mile passage took us six days to complete and we motorsailed most of the way. Some of the highlights include birds hitchhiking a ride with us.  One was a seagull that we picked up right out of Contadora. The second was a small dark seabird who left us after a storm.  The third was a red-footed booby.  (We knew then that we were getting close to our destination!)  We also saw the unworldly colors of the bioluminescence produced by organisms we were motoring through.  On Monday, February 19, we crossed over the Equator (officially becoming Shellbacks!)  We also enjoyed a visit from a small pod of dolphins chasing Bountibou through the waves.
