Isla Contadora, Panama
February 13, 2024 Tuesday
It was a warm and windless day to check out of Panama and motorsail to Isla Contadora, one of the Las Perlas islands. The day trip was warm, and we enjoyed maneuvering through the ship traffic waiting for their canal transit.
Along the way we began to notice these strange-looking "tips" moving through the water beside us. We later find out that these were devil rays. Fascinating to watch!
Wonderful to finally reunite with the Fleet! We were warmly welcomed with horn blasts, cheers and hearty waves! After anchoring, our friends from Wimsey invited to take us in their dinghy to the island. Usually very lush and green, this island, too, has suffered from the drought.
We had been warned of the very high tidal swings, but nothing prepared us for what we encountered…most of the beach where we had left the dinghy was underwater when we got back, and we had to wade over to the dinghy. The swell almost took me out, but somehow, I managed to stay on my feet 😊
