An Unforgettable Dive at Kicker Rock

An Unforgettable Dive at Kicker Rock

February 24, 2024 Saturday
Today was one of those days that I will always remember!  At 7:30 am we boarded the “Galapagos Party Boat” and headed to dive Kicker Rock (a.k.a Leon Dormido, the sleeping lion) with the Blue Evolution team.

Kicker Rock (Leon Dormido)

I was very nervous about this whole thing…it seems quite unnatural to jump off a perfectly good boat and into the ocean!  But the only divers were Whit and me, and we were guided by our divemaster Carlos and the dive shop owner Jose. The things we saw on those two dives!  The sheer rock face covered with coral, dozens of hammerhead sharks, sea turtles, eagle rays, moray eels, octopus, parrotfish, …           Fish were EVERYWHERE!  It was truly like swimming in the middle of an aquarium!

After the dives we went to a quiet cove for lunch on board.  The scenery was spectacular with a special view of Kicker Rock for which I now have a greater appreciation!

For some reason we thought it was a good idea to leave San Cristobal that afternoon…We were both very tired, but safely made the overnight passage to Isla Isabela.
